The Capelin roe (Masago) is an alternative to Tobiko. Very similar in look/taste but smaller and less “Crunchy”. It’s still looked upon as being a high quality fish roe and a great colourful addition to seafood and sushi dishes. The roe is often between 0.9-1,2 mm in size. The Capelin spawn between 2-4 years of age. And from the Pacific/Mediterranean oceans.
